About the Author

My awkward third person bio…

Jessie Lerner is a storyteller and lover of humanity. At 25 she learned she has a gene that puts her at 87% lifetime risk of having breast cancer. Writing her forthcoming memoir has been a healing experience and she hopes it connects with others on the healing journey too. The unexpected and the unknown has driven Jessie to seek deeper. She openly shares her BRCA journey with anyone struggling with a genetic condition, those who love and want to support and understand their person with said mutated gene, and anyone struggling with decisions that have no right answers. Jessie lives in Madison, Wisconsin (where she graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in zoology and psychology) with her husband, the love of her life, and their two children. Once their youngest is out of diapers they plan to get a dog*. Prior to the birth of her second son she was the executive director of a sustainability non profit.

*She grew up with a German Shepard, Goliath. Mrs. Puff, her brother David’s kindergarten teacher, named the dog. Neither Mrs. Puff nor Goliath make an appearance in her book. Because many published author bios include a wag to their furry friends, she hopes this detail makes you giggle. Life can be too hard some days, and laughter makes those (all) days better. She enjoys noticing the absurd (in this case…David, Goliath, and Mrs. Puff the magic dragon) in everyday situations.
