Welcome! I started my BRCA health journey back in 2010. Having a mutated BRCA2 gene puts me at a high risk of breast and ovarian cancer. This blog includes emails I’ve sent to friends and family throughout the journey to keep them informed. People started asking if they could share them with others. I realized there was a lack of information and stories, so here I am, sharing my story with the world.
Feel free to share these with anyone who might benefit from a first hand account of dealing with hereditary cancer, risk reducing surgeries, or surgery recovery while parenting small children.
Read in chronological order for the full story (starting in 2010 at age 25), or jump around:
My first prophylactic surgery: fallopian tube removal at age 36.
Breast lift and reduction, at the age of 36, in preparation for a double mastectomy.
Prophylactic double mastectomy, with immediate DIEP reconstruction of my breasts at the age of 37, six months after my lift and reduction.
