Hey friends and family, 

Hope you are happy and healthy, and have figured out your Halloween costume. This email is an FYI on my scheduled surgery date. No need to reply. 

This is the “big one” aka a prophylactic mastectomy and immediate breast by reconstruction using my own body fat.

When I wake up from this surgery I will have reduced my chance of breast cancer from a lifetime chance of 87% to less than 4%! Some estimates are as low as 1%. I am looking forward to this day. 

My pre surgery COVID test is October 24th. Once that comes back negative, I’ll send an email with the OR time, meal train info, and TMI details (which you are under no obligation to read). 

In the meantime I’m keeping busy and spending my non parenting time “training” for surgery, eating gross amounts of protein, journaling, and crossing things off the prep list.  Things like “complete art project for Main Street Yoga Center”, “Fill out absentee ballot”, and “Lysol the shit out of the shower chair my aunt picked off the side of the road” are higher priority than “organize kids closet”. (FYI there are plenty of places you can check out medical supplies from…but only if your over 50.) 

Whelp, that got weird quick. But this whole process is strange and hard to relate to….so….happy October.
